Immigration Fees

All our prices vary depending on the type of immigration application you are making. Although our prices will be fixed for all work from taking your initial instructions to advising you on the outcome of the Home Office decision, our prices are calculated based on the number of hours it will take to prepare and advise you on the outcome of your application.

Our Immigration services are conducted by an experienced and qualified solicitor, Juliet Sarfo, and any work carried out by a caseworker is overseen by a solicitor.

Our Immigration work is supervised by our senior solicitor, Ruth Goward.

All fees attract VAT of 20%

Initial consultation

£250 plus VAT

  • Obtaining your instructions, discussing your circumstances, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of your case
  • Advising you if we believe your case is straightforward or complex
  • Identifying how much work will be involved to complete your case and provide you with our cost estimate

Nationality Applications

Naturalisation as a British Citizen- £1,200 to £1,600 plus VAT
Registration as a British Citizen- £950 plus VAT

What is included and key stages:

  • Obtain instructions

  • Assist you to collate relevant paperwork to support your application
  • Complete and submit your application to the Home Office
  • Liaise with Home Office on your behalf

  • 90% of non-settlement applications are decided within 3 weeks, 98% within 6 weeks and 100% within 12 weeks of the application date (referring to working days), if applying from outside the UK

Applications to settle permanently in the UK (Indefinite leave to remain)

£1,600 to £1,800 plus VAT

£900 to £1,200 plus VAT for each dependant 

We will:

  • Obtain instructions
  • Advise on relevant law and procedures and whether you meet the criteria
  • Assist you to collate relevant paperwork to support your application
  • Complete and submit your application to the Home Office
  • Liaise with Home Office on your behalf
  • Advise on outcome of your application

Timescales:

  • 6 months if applying from within the UK or
  • Between 12 weeks of the application date (up to 98.5% of settlement applications) and 24 weeks if applying from outside the UK

Applications for work, business or study under the Points-Based System

All work-related Visas including Innovator, Global Talent, Skilled Worker and Tier – £1,500 to £1,750 plus VAT

Student and Child Student between £1,000 plus VAT and £1,300 plus VAT

We will:

If we are not required to appeal but to advise about the outcome of the decision and request a reconsideration where applicable, the cost will range between £350 plus VAT and £550 plus VAT for advice and requesting a review of the decision.

Appeals to the First Tier Tribunal

If you decide to take further steps following a refusal decision, we will assist in challenging negative decisions by way of review or reconsideration and appeal to the First Tier Tribunal, where appropriate. Our professional costs to appeal a decision for you is in the region of £3,500 plus VAT.

Additionally a barrister might be required to represent you at the appeal hearing and they would charge between £950 plus VAT and £1,800 plus VAT depending on the complexity of the issues.

If you wish your case to be heard at a hearing, the tribunal fee is £140 (not subject to VAT)

Key stages:

  • Review of Home Office decision and advising you on reasons for refusal and whether the decision can be appealed or ask for a review
  • If the decision can be appealed, advising you on timescales to appeal, the procedures to appeal, further information that may be required with your appeal, the cost involved in appealing and the timescales,

  • Preparing your grounds of appeal and submitting your appeal

  • Preparing your statement and supporting evidence and instructing a barrister to represent you at the hearing
  • Compiling a bundle for the hearing

Disbursements
*All disbursements are excluded from our costs, whether our costs are fixed or charged hourly. Some disbursements are subject to VAT, while others are not. Details regarding the VAT applicability of each disbursement will be communicated to you in advance of the charge being incurred.

Disbursements would normally include:

  • Home Office Fees for application – This depends on type of application
  • Immigration Health surcharge (IHS)- current being £776 per year for students and £1,035 per year for all other visa applicants. You are required to multiply this figure by the number of your visa duration. For example if you are a student on a 2-year visa, you would be expected to pay £1,552 IHS fees
  • Court/Tribunal fees – Dependent on the type of application- the current fees are £80 or £140 to issue an appeal. £80 is when your appeal is to be heard without a hearing and £140 is when your matter is to be listed for a hearing.
  • Travel costs – 2nd class ticket or 0.45p per mile plus parking
  • Ours and barrister’s court representation fees of between £950 plus VAT and £1,800 plus VAT. You would be advised of the barrister’s fee at the point of need
  • Interpretation and document translation fees – prices range from approximately £32 per hour for interpretation and £100 per 1000 words for translation
  • Expert fees and all fees payable to third parties in order to obtain evidence on your behalf – *You will be advised of any disbursements that may apply to your case from the outset and updated on any intervening disbursement in the course of running your case.

Factors that may affect the cost of your Immigration matter

  • If you are applying with dependants
  • If you are unable to communicate in English, which means we will take more time to advise and prepare your application
  • If we are to obtain extended evidence, for example gathering written statements from witnesses, obtaining expert evidence, especially for first-time applicants
  • If we have to review previous file of papers before advising you and/or preparing your application
  • If we will be required to attend an interview with you
  • If you are inconsistent with your instructions and we have to source collaborating or additional evidence on your behalf
  • If your case is complex, in that, it contains unusual circumstances and/or complex area of law we have to prepare detailed written submissions which might involve research, particularly in obtaining evidence to support your application
  • If you require us to send chasing letters to be sent without justification

The costs quoted here do not include:

  • Any Home Office fees for making the application. You will pay this to the Home Office directly as part of the application process.
  • Where the Home Office refuse your application, advice and assistance in relation to any appeal. We are unable to define the exact cost as it would vary depending on the complexity of your case and the decision to be appealed against. The costs relating to advice and assistance will range between £350 and £650 excluding court representation and counsel opinion, if this is required.
  • Counsel opinion can be obtained in any complex matter and can range between £1,000 and £1,800 depending on the complexity of the issue. Please note; whether VAT is chargeable on counsel fees will depend on the relevant counsel. Some Counsels charge VAT and others do not.

Timescales

We will seek to submit your application as soon as we have all evidence to support your application and certainly before any deadlines are due. However, the time it will take for a decision is dependent on the Home Office and this could take up to 6 months, and in some cases, longer.
